Atauro Municipality
Atauro is an island located 25 km north of Dili. The government officially declared Atauro as a new municipality in January 2022. The languages spoken on the island are Rahesuk, Resuk, Raklungu, and Dadu’a. The traditional weaving of Atauro is Rapin Hirik, literally meaning made of palm leaves. In the past, Hrapin Hirik was used as a fabric to cover the body, nowadays it is only used to create diverse products such as wallets, bags and home decorations.
